Small Business Project: MoleMap CEO has big plans for expansion

MoleMap launched in Aotearoa in 1996 as a skin cancer detection clinic and has since expanded across the Ditch, and headquarters itself in Sydney.

During a visit to Auckland, chief executive Michelle Aquilina told The Post she joined the team almost four years ago after a career in health technology and, during her time in the role, the company had gone from being in the red to generating $25 million in revenue in the past three years.

MoleMap is working to expand its New Zealand-developed AI melanoma detection software, Kāhu AI, to the Australian market.

Michelle Aquilina talked to The Post about the business.

What is MoleMap?

MoleMap started more than 25 years ago and we focus on the surveillance, detection, and more recently the treatment of melanoma and skin cancers. We’re predominantly a nurse-led model of care with telehealth [virtual] dermatology diagnosis.

I've been with MoleMap for almost four years and have been in the healthcare industry all my working professional life, so for a good 30 years. When I came on board, I thought this company offered an amazing tech-enabled healthcare business model that was really unique to the industry.
